Spicy and sour fish curry with Kudam Puli(Malabar tamarind or Pot Tamaraind)

Fish is a delicacy for Malayalees and is a must on the dining table. A wide range of dishes can be prepared using fish. Here is how to make a spicy and sour fish curry with Kudam Puli (Malabar tamarind or Pot Tamaraind)

Ginger: 1 teaspoon (finely chopped)
Garlic: 1 teaspoon (finely chopped)
Shallots: ½ cup (finely chopped)
fenugreek powder: 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder: ½ teaspoon
Mustard seeds: ¼ teaspoon
Kudam Puli (Malabar/Pot tamarind): 3 pieces
Curry leaves: 1 leaflet
Coconut oil: 2 teaspoons
Water: 1 cup
Salt: As per taste

How to prepare

In a pan heat up some coconut oil and crackle the mustard seeds. Then fry the shallots, garlic and ginger. Add chili powder and turmeric powder in to a small bowl and mix with water. Pour this mix into the pan and keep sautéing. Once the oil is visible on the surface add the Kudam Puli and pour in one cup of water. Bring it to a boil.
